The Centers for Disease Control is issuing new warnings about the “kissing bug”.  The Deadly Kissing Bug is a beetle that often carries a deadly disease and has been reported in several new states.

The Deadly Kissing Bug, also known as the triatomine bug or assassin bug, is blamed for recently infecting at least 12 people in Texas with a parasite that causes Chagas Disease. Left untreated, the disease can cause sudden death.

Chagas disease is caused by a protozoan parasite named Trypanosoma cruzi. Infection of humans occurs when a Deadly Kissing Bug deposits feces that contains the parasites on human skin. The parasites then enter the host through the bug bite, or breaks in the skin. Occasionally, the parasites enter through mucosal cells of the mouth or airway when ingested or inhaled. The bugs often deposit feces near the eyes and lips.
