Three unarmed U.S. Marines on board a high speed train between Amsterdam and Paris foiled a terrorist attack after a gunman opened fire with an assault rifle.
A 26 year old Moroccan national came out of the bathroom with a gun and opened fire on the passengers. Fortunately, the U.S. Marines were nearby and took down the terrorist before he could kill anyone.
The terrorist had at least six full magazines of ammunition holding almost 200 rounds. He was also carrying a knife.
Three people were wounded in the shooting incident the French Interior Ministry said.
The terrorist was arrested when the train finally stopped at Arras station in northern France, but his motives are still not yet known.
The wounded included an American and a Briton.
Train operator Thalys said that travelers were safe and the situation was under control.
France has been on high security alert since Islamist militants killed 17 people in and around Paris in January.
